Vintage Windows

Don't you just love Vintage Windows? I think I may have another obsession. They are just so fun to work with, there are so many possibilities.

In my last post I shared a peek at some old windows that I would be working on next.

We were able to finish up two of the three this week & I couldn't wait to share them with all of you.

The first one we painted Blue, "Sea Reflections" by Benjamin Moore...

And the Second one we painted it a green called "Tree Frog" by Clark & Kensington, but I wanted it more pastel so I added some white.

I love the vintage graphics from Karen at The Graphics Fairy & that is where I found this graphic. It's actually two different graphics that I put together.

You can read about how I transfer & paint on the graphics here

This is the same blue color I used here.

And this is the table I used this green color on. You can really see the frosted paint I sprayed on the glass to protect the graphic in this picture.

These windows are pretty good size, the blue one is 25" square & the green one is about 3" bigger.

Both available at Sassy Fabrics in Grand Blanc, MI.
So which color do you like best? I still have the larger two paned window to do, we have painted it Primer Red.  Any suggestions?

Follow us on Facebook to see what we are working on. Thanks for stopping by & have a great weekend!

UPDATE:

Here is the third window!

I used two different graphics again on this window, the banner is from an Etsy store called Graphique. The dress form is from Free Vintage Digital Stamps. Do you like the Primer Red?

Green Le Jardin Table

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend, mine went by way to fast. I wish I could find a way to squeeze a few more hours into the weekend.

Last month my son came home with a surprise for me.  It was garbage day in our neighborhood & he scored a roadside treasure. He even had the neighbor kids help him carry it on his way home from the bus stop. I am so proud, I taught him well.

It was a tall table with a butcher block top.  I think it was left out in the rain because the top was badly warped. You can really tell in this picture. I took this picture after we replaced the top.

I had an old kitchen cabinet door (another roadside treasure) that fit perfectly for the replacement.  It was a few inches bigger which made the table top work area more versatile.

I like the scale of the new top.
I filled the holes with wood putty where the hardware went, after securing the top to the base.  Now I was ready for paint.

I am trying to expand my color pallet, so I was looking for a "Spring" color.  Green says "Spring" to me.
I choose a color called "Tree Frog". It's from Ace Hardware, their new Clark & Kensington's primer & paint in one.   I love using this paint when I make my own Chalk paint. The flat interior latex paint works perfectly when turned into chalk paint.

I had seen the perfect graphic for this project a couple of months ago & couldn't wait to use it. So I headed over to The Graphics Fairy & created the words in Publisher. Here is a picture of the graphics after I transferred them on the top.

I used my overhead projector then took some white chalk to draw in the images.

I like to use the Elmer's paint pens for white graphics. I traced them in, then used white paint & a small brush to fill the words in.

I had intended to paint the Asian flower in solid but after I outlined it, I liked the way it looked.  A light distressing, two coats of clear wax & Voila!

I have to admit, this color was once again waaay out of my comfort zone. It felt a little "Kemit the frog" green at first. After I put the graphics on it, I liked it. It sort of grew on me.

It's counter top height so you could easily pull a stool up to it & use it for a desk, or put it in a kitchen for a work station or maybe a coffee station.

Not bad for a roadside treasure.  Does it make you think of Spring? What would you use this table for?

Check us out on Facebook get a peek of what we're up to. Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a great week! Dee

French Olive Side Table

This past spring, during the freak warm spell that gave us eighty degree weather in March, I found the cutest little side table at Collette's Vintage & Antique Mall's first Flea market.

It was so cute with it's little curved legs & it was just the right size to go any where. Perfect for a bedside table, or maybe next to the sofa or even in a guest bedroom.

I knew I had to have it the minute I seen it.  After alittle haggling I happily took it home with me.  Like I mentioned earlier, the weather was so warm for March.  We all had spring fever.  So I decided to paint this little cutie a nice spring green.

I took the last of my ASCP in "Olive" & added "Old White" to it & voila!  The perfect shade of spring green. Then I painted the rest in Old White. A funny thing about old furniture, you never know what is going to rise to the surface until your first coat dries.  This piece gave me fits, I kept getting a pinkish bleed leeching to the surface. I tried primer, then I tried Kilz (you know the "Stain blocking primer" NOT!).  Then I remembered reading somewhere that if you paint over the stain with flat varnish, let it dry, & paint again the varnish will seal in the bleed. Well, it totally works!!!  What a relieve.  That little problem was ruining the fun of painting.
With that problem solved, I polished up the original hardware. Added a nice stencil I found at Hobby Lobby (love that place by the way). Did a couple of coats of clear wax & buffed to perfection.

Here is a close up of the top.

This little cutie is now available at Collette's Antique Mall in Burton, Mi.  Thanks for visiting, & have a great day!  Dee
