Another Happy Customer!

A couple of weeks ago I received a phone call from a very nice lady, named Karen, who had a dresser she needed to have painted.  I gave you a sneak peek of it on my last post:

Here is the before picture:

As you can see, it was a Mid Century Modern dresser. It was in very good condition despite a few cosmetic issues on the top.  The day before Karen dropped off this dresser, my Mom scored a pair of nightstands that matched this dresser perfectly:

When Karen seen these little cuties she knew she wanted them, but had to measure to make sure they would fit her space.  Luckily for her, they did.

She wanted them Shabby White with black handles. The dresser was missing one of the original handles, so we would be replacing them all. She also wanted a nice graphic for the top of the dresser. This is what we came up with:

She did crystal knobs on the top two drawers, & we painted all the rest of the hardware black. I added a little stencil right where the knobs attach.

For the top we chose one of my favorite graphics from The Graphics Fairy.

I think the nightstands came out sooo cute!

Karen even made some very nice drawer liners with some pretty fabric.

We all loved how they came out. When Karen delivered the dresser, she drove up in a Prius. We couldn't believe our eyes, so when she showed up in the same car to pick up not one piece but three, we were all doubters.  Well, after much conversation & trial & error between my husband, myself & Karen, we did it!  If someone had told me they could fit a dresser & two nightstands in a Prius I wouldn't have believed it. Here is the proof:

The second nightstand is in the front seat. Talk about going "Green", she drives a "Green" car filled with "Refurbished" furniture. Can't beat that. Karen was thrilled with her new set & we have another happy customer! Thanks for visiting & have a great week!  Dee

  

 

More Features & a Sneak Peek

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It's going by so fast, I can't believe it's August already!  My mom & I have been super busy this last couple of weeks. Before I give you a peek of what we've been up to I'd like to thank a couple of ladies.

First I need to thank Maryann over at The Power of Paint. I submitted my Corner Table roadside treasure & she featured it last Thursday. For those of you not familiar with this site it's for all things painted. It's super easy to submit your project & if Maryanne likes it you get featured. Thanks again Maryann!

Secondly I need to thank Cassie at Primitive and Proper.  She featured the same table at her rockin weekly "POWW Furniture linky party". It's every Tuesday & she does her favorites from the party every Saturday. I love this party & try to join every week. Cassie is super nice & super talented. She is always on the go with her family & still has time to write a blog & create beautiful stuff. I want to be just like her when I grow up! Thanks again Cassie!

I Was Featured!

I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend. I know here in Michigan the weather is perfect. My Mom & I have had a busy Saturday morning painting, now it's time to take a break & share some awesome news.

My Corner Table Roadside Treasure was featured yesterday at

 Roadkill Rescue!!!

If your not familiar with this site, then take my advise & check it out.  If you have a piece of furniture you found on the side of the road, or in the dumpster & you have taken it home & re purposed it or made it beautiful again, then this is the place for you.

Want to be featured? It's easy, just submit your rescued piece. It doesn't even have to be furniture. It could be an old metal can that you made into something cool or maybe some old shirts you tuned into a rag rug. If Beckie likes what she sees then she will give you the honor of being featured. Isn't that great!!?  And the best thing about being featured is you get lots of great comments, new followers & a huge number of views. Last time I was featured here at Roadkill Rescue, I had over 450 views in one day (I think this one will top it). It's also a great source for inspiration. There are some very talented & creative people featured everyday.

Corner Table Roadside Treasure

Earlier this month I stopped by my Mom's house & sitting in her garage is one of the coolest tables I've ever seen.  When I asked her where it came from, she said my brother Travis found it on the side of the road with a sign on it that said "FREE" (my favorite price!). Thanks Trav, your the best!

Can you believe someone would throw this away?!!  I have seen these tables on Craig's List & in my local antique mall & they go for alot of money & I wanted one.  Look at it, there is not a thing wrong with it, Okay it has that one blemish on the top but other then that it's perfect.

Look at that beautiful scalloped top trim & those nice straight lines...

Now that I am done gushing over this awesome find I will tell you how we painted it. We first gave the whole surface a quick sanding. I had big plans for this piece & I didn't want any paint peeling going on. Then we gave it two coats of DIY chalk paint in Black. Now it was time for the fun part, the graphics!  I wanted to do something that would enhance the cool pie shape on the top. This is what I came up with:

I put the 1/4 of the hour clock face on it. If you follow me you know I have a clock face obsession.  Then I added the "Paris Clocks" to the bottom. I transfered the images & painted them in by hand.

I shadowed the images in black to add a little dimension.



After two coats of ASCP clear wax it was buffed to perfection.

 

I know I say this about almost all of my pieces but this time I really do wish I had space enough to keep it.

Shabby Black Dining Set

In the early afternoon of the 4th of July, I got a phone call from my Aunt Jane. She was at our local Goodwill & found a dining set she thought I might be interested in. It was a drop leaf table with three leafs & six Harp back chairs for $29.99!!! She wanted to know did I think I could use it? Me & the Hubby jumped in my mini van & raced right over. Here is what I came home with:

It's a Duncan Phyfe knockoff, but I love it!

What a score!  I guess staying home on the biggest summer holiday pays off. Thank you Aunt Jane! Only you would be at the Goodwill on the 4th of July.

Just look at those beautiful feet!

This table had some imperfections, but they were all cosmetic. All the hardware was original & in good shape, the mechanism was still real smooth & the chairs were solid. What more could you ask for?

With all the leafs in, you could seat eight!

The chairs would all get nice new seat covers.

The next day we made this a family project.

After everything was cleaned & sanded, my Mom & I gave it two coats of DIY Black Chalk paint. 

 Sanded, distressed & two coats of clear Annie Sloan soft wax.

The chairs came out amazing!

We used drop cloth to upholster the seat cushions & each chair has a different graphic I found on The Graphics Fairy

I think this one is my favorite.

I think of all the projects I've done, this one I am the most proud of. It was a real family effort & the end result is beautiful.

The Waterfall Cabinet

Last month my Husband & I were strolling thru Collette's Vintage & Antiques Mall, where I have a booth, & fell in love with the cutest Waterfall style cabinet.  It was priced a little bit out of my budget so we decided to wait. I had enough projects to finish anyway.

About a week later my Mom & I stopped in to spruce up the booth & I wanted to show her this cabinet. Lucky for me it had just been marked down, & since we had just sold a cabinet in the booth it was now in the budget. I couldn't pay for it fast enough, there were a couple of other people hovering around as my Mom & I discussed what we were going to do with it. They must have been keeping tabs on it as well. Here is a before picture (I can't believe I remembered, we were that excited!):

It has that vintage Waterfall style to it but for a child's room. You can see where the Little Lamb decals were on the door. That's my Mom giving it a good scrubbing. It was in decent shape, just a little water stain on the bottom. Once we cleaned it all up & gave it a quick sand & it was ready for paint. I wanted to keep it neutral so it could go anywhere. This is what I came up with:

We gave it two coats of DIY Chalk paint in Pure White,spray painted the handles, hand painted the Fleur di Lis......

And painted the inside Duck Egg Blue.  You can see the little hanger on the inside, it slides in & out, how cute is that!!?

Can't you just see this cabinet in a baby's room or a guest bedroom. Maybe even in a bathroom. It's a petite size so it could go anywhere really. I have it for sale at Sassy Fabrics (V Trading) in Grand Blanc, MI.

Americana Bench

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE!

I've been off on vacation for the last couple of weeks & now it's time to get back to work.

If you follow my blog you know I have these benches:

I have painted six of these in the last year. Five of them have all been French. You can see one here & here.  This is the only one I painted Americana:

I start out with two coats of Annie Sloan's Old White:

Now I have a blank canvas. Then I decide on the graphic & fabric.  The flag was easy to paint in. I started with the blue square. First, I cut star shapes out of contact paper, then I stuck them in place.  I used craft paint for the red & blue. Painted in the square right over the stars, then painted in the red stripes.  Once it was dry, I peeled the stars & there you have it!  An Americana Bench!  I distressed, clear & dark waxed it, & buffed to perfection.  The fabric I choose was a navy blue & white Ticking material.
